Merit Prizes
Medals and merit prizes will be awarded in the Kingsgate Hotel 1/2 Marathon only to the first three runners and the first three walkers in each of the following grades (age as on event day)
Under 20 years
20 - 34 years
35 - 44 years
45 - 54 years
55+ years
Competitors must be present at prizegiving to be eligible for merit prizes.

Spot Prizes
The major spot prizes will be drawn during prizegiving at 1.30pm. Major spot prizes include fabulous New Balance products, a Q-Kayak, George Foreman grills, an Avanti bike, Dirty Dog eyewear, Kingsgate Rotorua vouchers plus much more.
Winners must be present at prizegiving to be eligible to win spot prizes.
Numerous spot prizes will be pre-drawn and available for collection at registration - good luck.
All competitors receive
A goodie bag with products from Sealord, Sanitarium Light n Tasty, Drink bottle, a Tasti bar, a Banana, a Whitakkers Peanut Slab, Jack Links beef snack, Powerade drink, race number, a Nature Valley bar, first aid, event support, on-line certificate, electronic timing plus a chance to win one of the numerous spot prizes.
Drink Stations
Drink stations are available at the 5km, 10km, 16km and finish area. Powerade sports drink and water will be provided at the 10km and finish area, water only will be provided at the 5km and 16km stations.

Souvenir male and female New Balance t-shirts 100% light weight, soft, breathable polyester moisture management fabric are available for purchase by order only.

Walkers
We value our walkers and wish to ensure that the experience of taking part in either of these great off-road events in Rotorua is a positive experience for all competitors. We rely on entrants integrity that walkers WALK the complete event. Please participate in the spirit of the event and abide by the walking criteria. Any walking competitor seen running will automatically be classified in the running results. No correspondence will be entered into.

Special accommodation rates are available at the Kingsgate Hotel Rotorua.
The recently refurbished hotel has excellent facilities to help you unwind after your event. Relax in the spa, have a sauna, swim in the heated pool, play tennis or release some tension in the gym. Enjoy the atmosphere and fabulous cuisine at the Jimmy Cooks Kiwi Kitchen & Bar.The talented chefs create exciting and delicious flavours from the finest fresh, meat and local produce. Sample a home grown or international dish from the menu or choose a selection from the sumptuous buffet.

General training tips
1. Ensure you have a good quality pair of running shoes – we recommend any New Balance running shoe as they are scientifically designed to improve stability and cushioning. See your local store for the full range of New Balance running shoes. This is the best investment you can make towards your goal of completing the half or 10k.
2. Have a training mate – always easier and lots more fun.
3. Train on grass or trails as much as possible – less likely to cause lower leg injuries and a more pleasant environment.
4.Stretch the whole body lightly after each training session
5. Keep hydrated. Always drink at least 600ml of water after each session. In longer sessions drink 300 – 500ml after 30 minutes. This will have a double effect – hydrate you during this session and also gets your body used to drinking while exercising.
